The Most Valuable Quarter From the Past Ten Years
We handle change every day but do we think of those jangling coins as being worth more than their face value?
Coins older than 50 years should always be considered for valuation, but what about the ones from the past 10, 20, or 30 years?
Well, the most valuable coin that has the highest chance of being handled by someone today is the:
2004-D Wisconsin quarter.
What makes such a recent coin so unique?
One reason: unique characteristics in the mold of the quarter.
Particularly this one has some interesting aspects that make it a big find. There are two abnormalities on it that makes it so: the high leaf and the low leaf, both debated to be errors in the die mold.
When the state quarters started back in the 90s, each state had its own design and artwork for their state’s quarter. Wisconsin came in 2004 and on the D version (Denver minted), there is an extra leaf pointing out the lower left side of the corn husk, almost rising out of the cheese. One version has the leaf pointing up, the other pointing out.
There are numerous examples of coins where there was some mistake and the mistake led to a rarity that turned valuable for those collecting it.
